Finally some rain
Having lived in Southern California years ago, the one thing I really liked about it was the sun. The semi-desert climate gave us lower humidity and the state of the art water conservation is probably the best on the planet. Recently the El Nino has exceeded its normal level. This has affected a lot of the world with major sun time resulting in wildfires in many countries including the UK.
Months of hot sun is also drying out a lot of lakes and ponds. This one near me is at about half its normal level. While visiting my friends in Pamplona during the last half of July this year, the whole city was awoken by a serious thunderstorm. Lightening bolts were coming down all over the place and it poured with rain for 20 minutes, then lessened off. Fortunately no fires happened. I was due to leave the next day, otherwise I would have gone outside and stood in the deluge, the water was not cold.
Due to the ground being so hard, any rain must be gentle at first then harder so as to prevent any flooding. This is happening in the UK, but not everywhere. Weather forecasts are saying just that and finally some rain is falling where I live. It will probably take months for the recovery. Some floods have already happened in the West Midlands of England (Birmingham and Staffordshire affected) the last few days of August.
