Eurasian Chaffinch

A washed out trip to a nature reserve next to Oronoz-Maguire, about an hour's bus ride from Pamplona, saw me waiting a few hours for a bus. The one thing I had come for was lost with all the rain. No way was I going to try to go up a steep mountain with all that mud. That had been attempted a couple of years ago somewhere else and for every few steps up I would slide back down a pace or two and wrote the hike off.

The new bus stop in Oronoz-Maguire is only about a year old. It's a lot larger than the old one and I must have paced around it several times and wandered some streets as well, during periods when the sky stopped falling.

During that time I sat in the bus stop shelter when it rained and most of the time was bored to tears. At one point this little bird landed and started looking around for bits to eat. It wandered about for a while and came right up to me, unafraid, so I whipped out my smartphone (because my camera had been put back into my pack) and grabbed some photo's. The little thing even hopped up to the seat about an arm's length away.

At first I did not know what the thing was. After asking I was told it is a Eurasian Chaffinch and evidently they are quite common around the world.
