Charf

When I did my morning walks In Tangier, sometimes the route taken had this scarp in the background. It wasn't that far from my location and probably the length of it is about a kilometer. The steep side was on the left as I stood there looking at it again and reckoned time had come to ascend it and see what is there. The name of the town is Charf and it is a kind of suburb of of the city.

These horses were on the way

Around 6 weeks before, a walk took place to another section of the city which also is on a hill. The architecture there was fairly recent but Charf is different.

A number of the buildings here are quite old, having been redecorated over the years. Charf is like many places in Maroc, there are no buses or trains and the only way to reach them is by car or walk. Steep narrow little streets, many with steps leading in and out. It's not unlike a kasbah, just not as much of a maze. No one spoke English there except one guy, probably a teenager, who also spoke Spanish.

I began the walk back, heading in the direction of the Hilton and train station which are only a few minutes froom where I was staying.

Interesting place.
