A reality check

Many people nowadays are used to backpacks and many do their traveling with one, but it wasn't always like that. When young, I didn't even know they existed, I used small suitcases. My first pack was a dirt cheap thing I bought in the Mission District of San Francisco back in 1968. I was twenty two years old, just finished four years in the US Air Force and took off. A lot has happened since then.

My father was a retired US Air Force Lt. Colonel who had moved to England, so I backpacked out from the Pacific Coast in July of 1968 and it was quite a trip. I traveled a lot for decades and liked to get out and hike all over the place. I would write stuff down in notebooks, then one day tossed them all in the trash. In 2011 I decided to begin a travel blog. It was hard to do because for years I had avoided that sort of thing. Now here I was traveling around the south of England takiing photo's and writing about it, even though I don't like the country.

2013 saw my trip to Madrid and the birth of Simian Circles which ran until 2023. I reckoned 10 years was enough and closed the blog down, intending to no longer have one. However, this domain was hanging there until 2027, so I decided to use it. The old Simian Circles blog is connected to this one for reference only, with a few bits also on McGresty.

The Reality bit

It was near Pamplona, this year, that I began to hike up a steep mountain. Normally that was okay, but I stopped for a good think. I had Covid 4 months before anyone heard of it and since then my leg muscles have not functioned as they used to and a cataract operation was done wrong with the lens put in upside down and backwards. i refuse to let England's National Health Service touch me because all the NHS has done, over the years, is damage me. The WHO list it as the worst on the planet of all developed nations.

Following the damage done to my right eye especially by London's OTT 5G signals and ny age, I realized it may be time to hold back on the mountain ascents. I am now old and turn 79 in September, my people were not those with long lives. If I reach 82 it will be a miracle, so unless the wooded area is basically flat I will continue to just cover small places like I've done the past 11 years and take it a bit more easier. The domain expires in 2027 and that will end it.

All things considered I reckon that is probably a good idea but until that time I refuse to sit on a park bench like a bookend, waiting for the sunset.

Still on the road though.
